The All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee Chairman in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, has sued for peace over the ongoing political crisis in the state.
He made the call at the party national headquarters on Tuesday in Abuja.
Okocha said the decision of Governor Similaye Fubara to ignore most of the agreement reached with President Bola Tinubu is not the best for the state.
The APC Caretaker Chairman, who noted that the party is doing well in the state and that activities have been picking up, urged the House of Assembly to follow the lawmaking process in arriving at a decision.
“Our people are crying but do they have the platform that we have no, we have to speak for them. That is why I commend the People’s Democratic Party Governors Forum, they were critical of Mr President suggesting that the APC Government is not doing well and it should sit up.
“That is what democracy is all about. Democratic is not about praise singing or hailing accolades on leaders, leadership is not the type that I know,” Okocha said.
“The governor orchestrated this problem after which he called on the president to intervene. I was at the meeting with the president and other stakeholders where the governor signed the proclamation document. He assaulted democracy.
On the planned protest, Okocha charged the people not to compare Nigeria to Kenya or Sudan, saying the circumstances and indices were different.
He called on the youth to listen to Tinubu on the call he made on Monday appealing to the sponsors of the protests to shelve the planned agitation and allow him more time to see to the realization of all the goodies he has for them.
“As a party in Rivers State and patriotic citizens of Nigeria, we would like to seize this opportunity to caution against the planned protest by people I call failed politicians.
“They cannot destroy the APC or the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We should support the president as he is determined to move Nigeria forward. It will take time, but the process is in place.
“We should not compare Nigeria to Kenya or Sudan. The circumstances and indices are different, and our population cannot be compared to those countries.
“Encouraging protests will only lead to chaos. We advise Nigerians not to join or support what I call failed politicians who think they can destroy the APC or the president.”
