Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have arrested two suspected cattle rustlers at a mining checkpoint along the Tudun Wada–Kiru Road in Kiru Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as 45-year-old Jamilu Saadu and 37-year-old Nura Abdullahi, were arrested around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday while allegedly transporting a rustled cow in a Sharon Galaxy vehicle with registration number JJN 606 AE.
According to the Command, the operatives intercepted the vehicle during a routine operation at the checkpoint and discovered that the cow had been tied down and concealed in the rear section of the vehicle.
Two other suspects, believed to be the principal accomplices, reportedly fled the scene after sighting the security personnel and are currently at large.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The arrested suspects and recovered exhibits, including one cow and two machetes, are currently in NSCDC custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged cattle rustling and identify the owner of the animal.
The Command said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
In a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and combating criminal activities across Kano State.
The Command also urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist in preventing and combating crime.
