The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kano State Command, has arrested six suspected vandals for allegedly tampering with railway infrastructure in Kiru Local Government Area.
State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, disclosed this during a press briefing on Wednesday, stating that the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance by the operatives of NSCDC in the state.
According to him, the suspects were caught in the act of illegally removing railway slippers, an offence he described as economic sabotage with serious implications for public safety and national development.
The arrested individuals were identified as Sulaiman Salisu, 45; Musa Aliyu Harisu, 22; Ishaq Alhassan, 20; Isa Aminu, 35; Sadiq Bala, 20; and Mansur Idris, 22, all indigenes of Kaduna State.
Items recovered from the suspects include vandalised railway slippers, 60 railway nuts, and equipment allegedly used in carrying out the act, such as a 50kg gas cylinder, a 5kg gas cylinder, and a 20-metre hose.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were involved in dismantling the materials for resale.
The Commandant reiterated that the protection of critical national assets remains a core mandate of the Corps, warning that any attempt to vandalize public infrastructure would attract strict legal consequences.
He added that the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring the security of lives and property across the state.
