NSCDC Arrest Thieves Syndicate in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano has dismantled a notorious motorcycle thieves syndicate in Kano.

This was revealed on Monday in a statement by SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.

According to the statement, the syndicate operated in Gurin Gawa and Bechi areas of Kumbotso Local Government Area.

The statement reads:

“Six suspects are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to ensure necessary legal action is taken.

“The arrested suspects include Najib Lawal, 25; Bashir Bello Idris, 34; Lawan Yakubu, 27; Kabiru Garba, 29; Hussain Hassan, 24; and Mubarak Basiru, 21.

“Two other members of the gang remain at large, and a rigorous manhunt has been launched to apprehend them.

“Two of the suspects, Mubarak Basiru and Hussain Hassan, were involved in a brazen attack on January 14, 2025, at around 3:00 AM.

“They reportedly broke into the residence of Malam Abdullahi Bala in Gurin Gawa, assaulted him, and fled with his motorcycle. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of vigilante members and the NSCDC Kumbotso Division, the attackers were apprehended.

“Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of four additional suspects, including two receivers of stolen motorcycles. So far, two motorcycles have been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to trace more stolen property.

“Commandant Mohammed Lawal Falala, fcna, has directed the Armed Squad Unit of the command to intensify patrols around the Eastern Bypass and other vulnerable areas in the metropolis to curb criminal activities.”
