The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has accused the Oyo State Government of destroying railway assets worth millions of naira along its right-of-way in Ibadan, alleging that the action was led by the chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
In a press statement issued by Callistus Unyimadu, its chief public relations officer, on Tuesday, the NRC said it received a “worrisome report involving the destruction and removal of railway fixed assets worth several millions of Naira” along its corridor in Ibadan South-West LGA. According to the corporation, the incident occurred on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the Mile One-Ten axis of Ibadan.
The NRC alleged that Kehinde Adeyemi Amanda, the council chairman, “personally led a group comprising thugs, persons dressed in Nigerian Army uniforms, and operatives of Amotekun to vandalize NRC properties,” adding that the chairman claimed he was acting on the instructions of the state governor.
The corporation said assets destroyed and removed included “rails, sleepers, signal poles, billboards, as well as fences belonging to NRC tenants along the corridor,” stressing that the location is a “clearly defined and statutorily protected railway right-of-way.”
According to the statement, efforts by the NRC Police Command to stop the action were unsuccessful, as officers at the scene were reportedly resisted and forced to withdraw.
Describing the incident as “a grave violation of federal railway assets,” the NRC said it was documenting the matter and would pursue “appropriate security, administrative, and legal actions to safeguard its assets and prevent future encroachments on railway right-of-way nationwide.”
Kayode Opeifa, the managing director of the corporation, appealed to the Oyo State governor to “call the Ibadan South-West Local Government Chairman to order, to avert a breakdown of law and order and the continued abuse of the fundamental rights of Railway workers.” He also pledged the corporation’s “continued maintenance of law and order in the face of provocation.”
