National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) have joined forces to cultivate a national value system that embodies the highest ethical standards of the country.

At a press conference Thursday in Abuja, the director general of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu, and the newly elected president of the NIPR, Dr Ike Neliaku, committed themselves to the partnership.

The NIPR president and his team were in NOA on a courtesy visit to seek support for its programmes for the year.

Onilu lauded the opportunity to brief the NIPR on the effort of the Agency in recreating a value system that represents the ethical codes of the different parts of the country.

He said the quest for a National Value Charter is an attempt to build a consensus of what constitutes Nigeria‘s National ethics which will guide national aspiration.

Orientation is a journey and you cannot begin a journey until you know where you are going to, so the first thing to do is to define our destination before we start the journey of orientation,“ he said.

He also noted that when they draw up this charter, they can comfortably say that they are orienting their people towards achieving the values they already set for themselves.

He pledged to make available to the NIPR a draft copy of the National Value Charter for their inputs.

The DG also told his guests of the agency’s plans to set up a citizens’ brigade that will lead the grassroots campaign in their schools and communities.

He said the brigade will also ensure that young people at an impressionable age understand what being a Nigerian means.

The NOA DG also spoke of his plans to advocate for the return of nationalism studies in schools because it is as important as English and Mathematics.”
