The gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf popularly called Abba Gida-Gida has promised that the persistent scarcity of potable water in Kano State will become a thing of the past if elected Kano State Governor in the coming 2023 election.

According to a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Chief Campaign Spokesperson to H.E Abba Kabir Yusuf, the gubernatorial candidate made the pledge on Monday while paying homage to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, in his palace as part of the activities marking the party’s campaign rallies in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

Despite huge investments claimed to have been made by the current Administration in the provision of basic water to Kano households, Engr Abba said it is worrisome that access to safe drinking water remains out of reach of the masses in the State endowed with a good number of dams and resources to provide basic amenities.

Engr. Abba, who was accompanied by the top Kano NNPP leaders and candidates for the coming elections at the State and National levels, promised to bring to bear his years of experience as a civil servant in the area of water supply service and management to deal promptly with the lingering pipe-borne water scarcity in the State.

As a water engineering expert, Abba Gida-Gida also promised that, if elected Governor, his administration will continue with the people-centered policies of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso when free and good quality education for every child was a property.

He said: “Out of the tremendous respect we have for traditional institutions in Kano, we have made it a norm and first priority in the NNPP to pay a courtesy call on the palaces of royal fathers especially this revered Palace of Emir of Kano before proceeding to the arena for the rallies.

“We wish to inform Your Highness of our party’s blueprint and plans for the development of Kano and the provision of good welfare for the people including potable water, roads, modern school facility, and good quality education at all levels.

“We are all aware of the sorry situation of things in Kano today, compared to the past when Kano State was ranked first in terms of basic amenities. The number of out-of-school children has tremendously increased in Kano as a result of neglect by the current Administration.”

Abba Gida-Gida further said, if elected the Governor, his administration’s policy on education and human capital development will be a continuation of the giant stride by Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso when there were free quality education and oversea scholarship for the masses.

He noted that “We are all aware that many students sponsored by the Kwankwaso administration to study abroad have acquired the knowledge and are back to the State as medical doctors, engineers, pilots, and Ph.D. holders to contribute their quarters to the development of our society.”

In healthcare, Engr. Abba told the revered Kano royal father that the NNPP’s blueprint for the development of Kano has clearly map-out a strategy for children, pregnant women, and vulnerable groups who will access State-owned hospitals and receive free treatments and drugs.

Speaking further, the Kano NNPP 2023 gubernatorial candidate said, “We also have a policy for the provision of subsided quality fertilizer for farmers and other interventions in the critical areas of farming in order to ensure food security in the State.

“We will be committed to promoting morality in society especially dealing with drug abuse and providing support for mass weddings for intended divorcees and widows in the State.

“We have a policy for youth development through the provision of vocational education, aiming at increasing the number of skilled small and medium enterprise owners which will reduce the crime rate in the state.

“Policy for prompt payment of pension and gratuity is a priority in our blueprint unlike the current Administration whereby some retired civil servants were not paid their entitlement till they die out of poverty and frustration,” Abba Gida-Gida said.

Responding, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, said he knew the administrative competence of Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf since their paths crossed when the latter was a Commissioner and he was a District Head (Hakimi) in Kano.

Alhaji Aminu expressed hope that the NNPP will fulfill its campaign promises to the people of Kano if the party won the elections.

While wishing the party the very best in the elections, the Emir urged the people of Kano and the party’s supporters to avoid violence and any form of politically motivated crisis before, during, and after the elections.
