The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has confirmed the resignation of its national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Karaye, said the development did not come as a surprise to the party’s leadership.

According to the NNPP, Kwankwaso’s exit had been anticipated, noting that it followed ongoing consultations among opposition parties aimed at forging a stronger alliance ahead of future elections.

The party explained that the move aligns with broader efforts to unite opposition forces to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress and reposition the country politically.

Despite his resignation, the NNPP expressed gratitude to Kwankwaso for his contributions to the party’s growth over the past three years. It described him as a key figure in strengthening the party as a viable opposition platform.

The statement added that under his leadership, the party recorded notable achievements, including producing a governor, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and several state assembly members.

The NNPP also wished the former Kano State governor well in his future political pursuits, including the 2027 general elections.
