The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has banned 60000-litre petrol tankers from operating on roads in the country.
Nigeria has in recent months experienced a series of fuel tanker accidents.
But as part of efforts to address the incident, the NMDPRA Executive Director of Distribution Systems, Storage, and Retailing Infrastructure Ogbugo Ukoha said the ban on 60000-litre petrol tankers will begin on March 1, 2025.
“Beginning from March 1, 2025, trucks with a capacity in excess of 60,000 litres will not be allowed to load in any loading depot of petroleum products,” Ukoha said in a briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.
“By Q4 of 2025, we will also preclude the loading or transportation of petroleum products of any truck in excess of 45,000 litres. That is the breaking news for today.”
