The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has assured that the Federal Government is taking necessary steps to safeguard Nigerians living in the Middle East following the escalating crisis in the region.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said Nigerian authorities are closely monitoring developments and coordinating efforts to protect citizens abroad.

According to the commission, the government has received enquiries from Nigerians in countries such as Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Iran regarding possible evacuation plans should the need arise.

Balogun noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with relevant agencies to determine appropriate measures, while urging Nigerians in affected countries to adhere strictly to travel advisories and make use of emergency contact numbers provided by the ministry.

“Nigerians in affected countries should rest assured that the Federal Government is monitoring the situation and will take necessary steps to ensure that no Nigerian life is endangered,” the statement said.

The assurance follows an earlier advisory issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, urging Nigerians in the Middle East, particularly in Iran, to exercise heightened caution amid rising tensions.

The ministry advised citizens to remain vigilant, avoid strategic locations such as military or government installations, and stay alert to their surroundings, warning that such areas could become flashpoints.

Reiterating its commitment to citizens abroad, the ministry emphasized that the safety and well-being of Nigerians remain a top priority, while also calling on parties involved in the conflict to de-escalate tensions.

The renewed tensions come after the United States and Israel reportedly carried out strikes on Iran, prompting retaliatory actions by Iranian authorities, including attacks in parts of the Gulf region.
