New Naira: KNSG, Islamic Clerics Calls on FG to Extend Deadline

Kano State Government, Islamic Clerics from Tijjaniyya, Qadiriyya, and Izala sects in the state have called on the Federal Government to extend the deadline set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the cash swap of the old Naira notes due to the unavailability of the new Naira notes.

Hassan Musa Fagge, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kano State in a statement said the call was contained in a resolution of the meeting which also had in attendance the Governor of the State, Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his deputy, and APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Dr.Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, his running-mate Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and some Islamic Clerics.

According to the statement, the meeting noted that economic activities in the state which is the commercial nerve of northern Nigeria have been paralyzed due to hardship caused by the shortage of the new Naira notes.

The meeting, therefore, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to out of his magnanimity consider the suffering caused to the people of the State due to the shortage of the new Naira notes and extend the deadline set by the CBN, the statement added.
