The Nigeria Customs Service, (NCS), Kebbi Command reacting to the recent bullion van accident says it is in touch with relevant security agencies in the state with a view to supporting the course of the investigation into the cause of the accident in which three policemen and three civilians were burnt to death.
A statement, Thursday, signed and made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi by the NCS Spokesperson for Customs Area Comptroller, Kebbi Command, SC Nasiru Manga said the suspicion that a Customs patrol team may have pursued the Carina E vehicle laden with jerricans of fuel which was on high speed caused the accident has necessitated rigorous the on-going facts finding activities in the Command.
According to the statement, the Area Command Comptroller, Joseph Attah considered the accident very unfortunate, adding that NCS does not have a checkpoint or patrol team along Birnin Kebbi-Argungu Road.
The statement indicates that: “Since the unfortunate accident that claimed the lives of fellow compatriots at Jada Village along Birnin Kebbi-Argungu Road on Tuesday 27th September 2022, the Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has since been following with a deep sense of empathy, the gory details of the unfortunate accident.
“As with any situation where lives are affected our hearts and prayers are with the deceased and members of their immediate families.”
While looking forward to the outcome of the thorough investigation that’s ongoing by relevant agencies including the NSC, he prays the Almighty to grant the deceased al-Jannatul Firdaus and the injured ones a quick recovery, the statement added.
