The long-awaited National Population and Housing Census will be conducted soon, chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf, has said.
Dr. Yusuf made the announcement during a visit to the commission’s Plateau State office in Jos on Thursday.
According to a post on the NPC’s official Facebook page, the census will be fully digital and ready once the federal government officially announces the date.
The chairman said President Bola Tinubu had reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the exercise, one of the key reasons for his appointment.
“Only the president can proclaim the census date,” he said.
Dr. Yusuf, who assumed office on December 3, 2025, commended the Plateau State government, represented by Dr. Moses Nwan, Executive Private Secretary to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for its support to the commission.
He also highlighted ongoing initiatives to improve staff welfare, including salary enhancements, affordable housing, promotion exams, and the upcoming payment of the Christmas welfare package.
During the visit, Dr. Yusuf presented a digital birth certificate, inspected census materials, and urged staff to support his 7-Point Agenda for the Commission.
