The Kano State Fire Service has disclosed that property worth between N700 million and N800 million was lost in a fire outbreak at the Dakata Small-Scale Industrial Complex in Kano.

Daily Trust reported that the incident occurred at the industrial facility popularly known as Fatima Crossion and Recycling, located in Dakata area of the state.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the agency’s Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from one Mr. Joseph reporting the outbreak.

He said firefighters from the Service Headquarters, Dakata Fire Station and Rijiyar Zaki Fire Station were immediately mobilised to the scene.

“On arrival, crews discovered that the industrial complex measuring about 300 by 200 feet had been engulfed in flames,” the statement said.

The complex, divided into four sections, Plots A, B, C, and D, houses about 506 stalls. Approximately 100 stalls were destroyed by the inferno.

The fire service attributed the cause of the incident to an open flame allegedly lit by children to keep warm.

The statement added that the fire was eventually brought under control through the combined efforts of firefighters using four fire engines, preventing further spread to other sections of the complex.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service urged members of the public to take precautionary measures to prevent fire outbreaks, particularly by avoiding the use of open flames in public and industrial areas.
