The Network for Youth Enlightenment and Development (N-YED), a non-governmental organization, has expressed its determination to collaborate with the Kano state government toward enhancing the full implementation of the 2023 national education policy.

The Executive Director of N-YED, Comrade Abdulsalam Haruna, made this known during the opening ceremony of a one-day seminar for parents and teachers at Mumbayya House, Kano.

Comrade Abdulsalam maintained that the association had come out with plans to complement the effort of the Federal Government to actualize the implementation of the 2023 educational policy aimed at improving the quality of education across the nation.

“We are up and doing to see that we embark on a nationwide sensitization campaign on the importance of this policy and give all the necessary support to ensure that the policy is implemented successfully.

“This seminar titled: ‘To sort-out ways forward on implementing educational policy to standard in Kano’ is a part of the commitment to lay a solid foundation for the smooth implementation of the policy.”

He said the participants would critically review the 2023 educational policy, stressing that the outcome of their deliberation would be forwarded to the authority concerned for appropriate action.

Haruna further assured that the sitting would look at the part of the policy that states each class in Primary and Post Primary Schools should not exceed 40 students.

According to him, many schools in the state do not meet the requirements of this policy, pointing out that some schools still have up to 50-60 in a class which needs to be corrected.

A teacher, Ibrahim Abba, explained that if a class has 40 pupils, the teacher would tend to be in control of the class, whereby there would be adequate attention and a good learning environment.

“In a class of about 60 pupils, the teacher will be exhausted, the learning environment will be on the edge of negativity, and this will be a big challenge for a teacher.

“So in any good learning environment, there is a need to look at the class size to get the desired result,” he advised.

On his part, Prince Umar Ado Bayero, the prince of Emir of Kano called onward heads, district heads, and other relevant stakeholders in the society to lead by example by enrolling their wards in public schools.
