Modric Set to Depart Real Madrid at End of Season

News Desk

Luka Modric is reportedly set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.

Modric, 38, who joined Los Blancos from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 will be leaving the club after 13 years.

Modric’s contribution to the team has significantly decreased as he aged. However, it was previously reported that incoming head coach, Xabi Alonso had requested a contract extension from the board because he respects Modric’s leadership and experience.

However, despite Alonso’s insistence, a recent report from COPE as reported by Madrid Universal reveals Modric will not be staying at the club for the upcoming campaign.

Despite the 2018 Balon d’Or winner’s wish to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, it seems Real Madrid have not offered him a contract renewal.

Modric was expected to stay at the Bernabeu for at least one more season as part of his bigger plan to play for Croatia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Tottenham midfielder will have to continue his club career somewhere, even though he might still play in the World Cup.

According to the report, Modric’s 13-year stint at Real Madrid may come to an end on Saturday against Real Sociedad.

The veteran midfielder has featured in almost 600 matches for the Spanish giants winning series of laurels including six UEFA Champions League titles, four Laliga crowns, five FIFA Club World Cups, amongst a host of other trophies.

He has appeared in 55 matches scoring four goals and providing nine assists for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season as they fell short of successfully defending their Champions League and Laliga titles.
