Lionel Messi Explained Why He Does Not Deserve The MLS MVP Award

Stallion Times

In spite of his incredible accomplishments for Inter Miami, Lionel Messi has been informed he does not deserve to win the MLS MVP trophy this season.
The 37-year-old is still the most well-known figure in the American division, dominating headlines. In just 18 MLS games this 2024 season, he has already scored an incredible 17 goals, helping the Herons take the lead in the Eastern Conference.
Messi has missed nearly half of the Florida team’s MLS games this season, but they have only lost three of those games when he hasn’t been available, according to Twellman, demonstrating their independence from the Argentine wonder.

Regarding the MVP honor, the former USMNT player remarked on Twellman’s Takes, “Seventeen goals and 15 assists in 18 games is alien-like, that’s out of this world type of production, but I ruffled some feathers when I said Miami won the Shield when they won eight of nine games without Messi.”

“With him, Inter Miami won 78% of their games in 2023; without him, they won only 12%. The main issue heading into the season was how Miami would do without Messi in the summer. They answered it by winning eight of nine games, so it wasn’t expected that they would maintain the same number of points per game with or without him.”

The former player for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain is expected to play when Miami plays New England Revolution on Saturday to resume MLS competition.
