A former presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has officially welcomed the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing his defection as a major boost to the party’s growing structure.

Kwankwaso made this known in a statement shared on his X handle on Monday, where he praised Gwarzo’s decision to join the opposition coalition.

Gwarzo, who served as deputy governor in Kano State, formally joined the ADC on Sunday during a well-attended event held in Gwarzo Town.

Politics Nigeria reports that the gathering drew party supporters, political stakeholders, and loyalists, signaling strong grassroots backing for his move.

Reacting to the development, Kwankwaso did not hide his excitement. He described Gwarzo as a seasoned political figure whose experience would add value to the party’s vision and strengthen its position in Kano and beyond.

“I heartily congratulate Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, on his decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“The grand reception held yesterday in Gwarzo Town has not only strengthened our ranks with his wealth of experience, but has also injected fresh energy and renewed enthusiasm into the party.

“Welcome home, Your Excellency, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo,” the former presidential candidate said.
