The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), in partnership with the Zayt Foundation for Women and Children, has enrolled 170 Almajiri pupils from Malam Babba Qur’anic School, Hausawa, into the state healthcare scheme.

According to a statement on Wednesday by the agency’s spokesperson, Aminu Ahmad Turaki, the initiative was described as a milestone in extending healthcare to vulnerable children and as part of the state’s broader push towards universal health coverage.

Speaking at the enrollment ceremony, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to inclusivity in healthcare delivery.

“No one should be left behind when it comes to healthcare access. Today’s enrollment is a testimony that even the most vulnerable among us have the right to quality healthcare.

“Together, we are building a healthier Kano State,” she said.

The program targets marginalized groups who traditionally lack access to essential services such as preventive care, maternal and child health, and treatment for common illnesses.

In appreciation, the proprietor of Malam Babba Qur’anic School, Alaramma Ahmad Abubakar (Malam Karami), thanked the state government and partners for their support.

“On behalf of our pupils, I sincerely thank His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Muktar, and the Zayt Foundation for enrolling our children.

“This gesture brings relief and hope to the Almajiri community,” he said.

KSCHMA noted that the collaboration with Zayt Foundation highlights the power of partnerships in improving public health outcomes.

The agency also appealed to development partners, NGOs, and philanthropists to support similar enrollment drives for other vulnerable groups across the state.

With this initiative, KSCHMA has reaffirmed its mission to build an equitable healthcare system in which every resident of Kano State, regardless of background or socioeconomic status, can access quality health services.
