As part of activities commemorating the 2025 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day, the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has carried out a targeted humanitarian outreach to the Nassarawa Children’s Home in Kano and persons living with sickle cell anaemia across the state.

Leading the initiative, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to equity, social protection, and access to quality healthcare for all residents, with particular attention to the most vulnerable groups.

During the visit to the Nassarawa Children’s Home, Dr. Muktar distributed new clothing items to the children to provide comfort and protection during the approaching harmattan season.

The gesture reflects KSCHMA’s holistic approach to health, recognising the role of social and environmental factors in promoting overall wellbeing.

Similarly, persons living with sickle cell anaemia received protective clothing and fortified “grill powder,” a therapeutic nutritional supplement designed to support immunity and reduce health risks associated with cold weather.

The intervention was carried out in collaboration with the Kano Sickle Cell Awareness Initiative and the Kano Sickle Cell Club, highlighting the Agency’s partnership with civil society organizations to address the specific needs of high-risk populations.

In a move to ensure immediate healthcare support, the Executive Secretary directed the ICT Department to enroll all present sickle cell patients on the spot into the AbbaCare Program, KSCHMA’s contributory healthcare scheme for indigent sickle cell patients.

Through the program, beneficiaries now have access to comprehensive medical coverage, including routine care, specialist services, and emergency treatment.

Dr. Muktar noted that the outreach reflects KSCHMA’s broader mandate to remove barriers to healthcare, provide financial protection, and improve the quality of life of Kano residents.

She added that programs such as AbbaCare are central to the state’s strategy for achieving Universal Health Coverage and ensuring that no one is left behind.

Representatives of the Nassarawa Children’s Home and the Kano Sickle Cell Club expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful, especially during the harmattan season when health risks are heightened.

The outreach forms part of KSCHMA’s 2025 UHC Day activities and underscores the Agency’s ongoing commitment to inclusive, equitable healthcare delivery in line with the Kano State Government’s vision for a healthier and more productive population.
