The Kano Patriotic Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Forum (KPCF), a coalition comprising more than 310 member organizations, has expressed deep concern over recent reports alleging discriminatory and demeaning remarks, as well as assault, credited to Dr. Abdussalam Kani against Mr. Michael Nworisa and two members of the Persons with Special Disabilities (PWDs) community in Kano State.

In a statement signed Friday by the convener, Hassan Ibrahim Gama, Co-convener 1, Mustapha Muhammed Chiroma, and Co-convener 11, Peter Hassan Tijjani and issued to the public, the coalition stated clearly and unequivocally that it does not support, endorse, or condone any form of discrimination, ethnic profiling, intimidation, or verbal abuse against any individual or group, regardless of origin, disability status, religion, opinion, or social background.

The Forum emphasized that civil society is built on the pillars of tolerance, respect for diversity, and solidarity, noting that the strength of civic engagement lies not in rhetoric or public posturing, but in the consistent practice of humility, inclusiveness, and mutual respect.

According to the coalition, any conduct that undermines these values contradicts the essence of civil society activism and democratic culture.

KPCF said it was particularly disturbed by allegations that members of the PWD community were subjected to intimidation, harassment, and derogatory remarks.

It stressed that persons with disabilities are equal citizens whose voices, opinions, and participation in public discourse must be respected and protected.

“Any attempt to silence or demean them is not only morally unacceptable but also inconsistent with Nigeria’s constitutional principles and international standards on inclusion and human rights,” the statement read.

KPCF formally distanced itself from all discriminatory or inflammatory statements allegedly attributed to Dr. Abdussalam Kani against members of the civil society community in Kano.

It also expressed solidarity with Mr. Michael Nworisa and the affected members of the PWD community, while calling for civility, restraint, and accountability in civic and political engagements across the state.

Furthermore, KPCF reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive, respectful, and peaceful civic participation for all residents of Kano, irrespective of background or physical ability.

It reiterated its readiness to continue working with the Kano State Government in various sectors of human development through collaboration and partnership.

The Forum urged civil society actors, scholars, activists, and opinion leaders to remember that leadership within the civic space is measured not by titles or loud declarations, but by character, conduct, and respect for human dignity.

The Kano Patriotic Coalition of CSOs Forum pledged to remain steadfast in promoting unity, social justice, and democratic values in Kano State and beyond.
