Kogi State Government has commenced a comprehensive On-the-Job Training program for staff of the Government House as part of its ongoing efforts to digitize the civil service and strengthen good governance.

The program, which was flagged off on Tuesday at the Government House, Lokoja, is designed to equip workers with the skills and knowledge needed to improve their performance and efficiency.

In his opening remarks, the Director General of Government House Administration, Adm. Umaru Oricha Shuaibu, underscored the importance of continuous training in public service.

“Training is the process of developing skills, knowledge, and behaviours in individuals or groups. It involves guidance through new concepts and practice that allows learners to apply what they have learned,” he said.

Adm. Shuaibu noted the benefits of On-the-Job Training, including practical application, reduced gaps between theory and practice, and improved retention.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for approving and funding the program.

“We thank God Almighty for this opportunity. I believe that after this programme, workers will not remain the same again. There will be a change of mindset and approach to civil service rules and regulations,” he added.

The training, themed “Strategy and Strategic Management in Civil Service and its Benefits,” targets Administrative Officers, Accounting Officers, Executive Officers, Engineers, Nurses, Medical Officers, and Clerical Officers drawn from the Government House, the Office of the Deputy Governor, and the Office of the First Lady.

Participants will be exposed to key topics such as Oath of Secrecy, Communication, Strategic Planning, and Stress Management.

Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Barr. Muhammad Tanko Musa, commended the initiative, stressing that training is essential to the continuity of civil service. “Without human capital, the civil service cannot exist. Strategy and strategic planning are therefore key to building a functional system,” he stated.

In a goodwill message, Okeme Abdullahi Jubrail also hailed the Director General for championing the initiative, describing it as a unique opportunity for civil servants in the state.

He emphasized the need for aligning strategies with government policies and programs.

Similarly, the Director of Administration, Pastor Mrs. Praise Akubo, appreciated Adm. Shuaibu for spearheading the programme and commended the Director of Training, Mr. Olutimehin Gbenga Taiye, alongside staff of the Government House, for their role in ensuring the success of the event.

The training is expected to boost the efficiency of Government House staff and contribute to the overall development of Kogi State.
