The Kano State Initiative for Persons with Special Needs (KIPSN) has joined the global community in commemorating the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), reaffirming its commitment to strengthening inclusion and advancing the rights of persons with special needs across the state.

In a statement signed on Wednesday by its Chairman, AbdulRazaq Ado Zango, the organisation described the annual observance as a powerful reminder of the need to make disability inclusion central to development planning at both state and national levels.

KIPSN noted that a progressive society is one that guarantees equitable access to education, healthcare, employment, political participation, public infrastructure, and social protection for all citizens, regardless of disability.

The Chairperson of KIPSN urged the government to translate commitments into tangible action, particularly the immediate establishment of the Kano State Disability Commission.

“As we commemorate IDPD, I urge our leaders to turn promises into action. The time to operationalize the Kano State Disability Commission is now. Inclusion delayed is inclusion denied,” he said.

KIPSN extended warm felicitations to persons with special needs, their families, caregivers, organisations, and advocates who continue to champion dignity and inclusion across communities.

As part of its advocacy for the 2025 IDPD, the group called on government ministries, agencies, and stakeholders to mainstream disability-inclusive practices in all public programmes and service delivery systems.

It stressed that full activation of the Kano State Disability Commission, as mandated by law, remains critical for ensuring protection of rights and improving welfare.

KIPSN reiterated its commitment to promoting empowerment, representation, and equal opportunity for persons with special needs while challenging stigma, discrimination, and attitudinal barriers.

It also pledged to continue advocating for stronger community and governmental support systems that guarantee access to essential services.

KIPSN urged that this year’s commemoration move beyond ceremonial speeches to concrete structural reforms that enhance inclusion.

“Inclusion is a right, not a favor. A more inclusive Kano is a stronger, more prosperous Kano,” the statement added.
