Kebbi Highest in Dimensionally Poor Children Across Nigeria — Report

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) says Kebbi State, has the highest number of dimensionally poor children with 88% of the total children in the state.

The Social Policy Specialist UNICEF Sokoto, Malam Isa Ibrahim, mentioned this at a presentation on a two-day capacity building for the coalition of Civil Society Organizations and the Media on Public Financial Management, Child-Friendly Budgeting, and Releases across Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states holding in Birnin Kebbi.

He stated that, according to the National Bureau of Statistics 2023, every eight out of ten children in Kebbi state are dimensionally poor due to denial of access to education, health, nutrition, and potable water amongst others.

Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Acting Head of the Civil Service, Aishatu Usman, said the state government has been making an effort to ensure that, children’s situation in the state improves through the implementation of Social protection policy, Food, and Nutrition policy as well as Child right act that was signed into law.

She hoped that collaboration between the government and the CSOs would ensure that the budget is released to the appropriate sectors to ensure the situation of children improves in the state.

The two-day workshop draws participants from government officials, CSOs, NGOs, People with Special Needs, and the Media from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.
