Katsina state government, through the Department of Employment Promotions, has expressed its readiness to ensure that 7,000 to 8,000 youths (male and female) are gainfully employed in the various federal government programs in the state.

Hon Ahmad Nowa, the Special Adviser on Employment Promotions disclosed this while speaking in a chat with our correspondent in Katsina, saying that the department’s vision align with the Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s Building Your Future agenda and this will be achieved by 2027.

“The number of youths unemployment is a source of concern to the department and the state, these will be tackled through the numerous federal government programmes provided to the state”.

The Special Adviser on Employment Promotions explained that, during the year, 2025, the state had series of recruitment exercises, such as the Nigeria Army 89 and 90 regular recruitment program where about 800 candidates selected from across the 34 LGAs were successful.

He added that, under the Police Service Commission second batch recruitment exercise 286-300 youths were recruited, this is in addition to the first batch of recruitment held in 2024 where 525 youths got enlisted from the state.

Similarly, he said the state has had opportunities in the Nigeria Navy, Air Force, Civil Defense, the Correctional Service, Immigration, Customs, Fire Service, amongst others to reduce the number of unemployed youths in the state.

“Another opportunity is presently ongoing, as some portals are now open for candidates to complete the necessary procedures and processes into their desired institution, already candidates have completed the CBT exams, awaiting the screening exercise”.

Nowa described the turnout of the candidates for each program from across the state as very impressive, however the allocation to the state is limited, for example, in 2024, what was shortlisted is about 27,000 applicants, but only about 800-1000 got enlisted.

The Special Adviser however maintained that the level of unemployment has drastically improved with the recruitment of candidates into the various military and para-military institutions by the present administration lead by Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.

“The measures taken to curtail youths unemployment on assumption of office, include the recruitment of 10,000 youths to teach in primary and secondary schools, another 6,000 recruited into the state Community Watch Corps to confront the security challenges bedeviling the state”, he added.
