Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, on Saturday flagged off the Almajiri and Islamiyya school census across the state, a programme aimed at providing accurate data on the education system and informing policy reforms.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Quranic Education and Out-of-School Children, Tasiu Dandaguro, the governor also approved the training of enumerators from Almajiri and Islamiyya schools, equipping them with the necessary skills for a successful census exercise.
The event was organised by the Katsina State Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNDP, and other partners. The exercise is expected to generate critical data that will enhance the state’s national and international standing.
Dandaguro said, “It is very important to have the data in the state, because it will advance our potentials as a state, nationally and internationally, because when we validate our data, as far as Almajiri and Islamiyyah school is concerned in the state.
“That data will be represented in the State, within the country, and also when needed by the other non-governmental organisations that are operating in our country, like UNICEF, WHO among others.”
He commended the Bureau of Statistics for organising the training, highlighting its significance in gathering essential information needed by the state and development partners.
