Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has approved N20 million for each of Katsina State’s 34 local government areas, dedicated to the renovation and upgrading of public graveyards.

He announced on Thursday during a meeting with traditional rulers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates, describing the project as both a service to the public and a spiritual gesture to seek divine blessings for the state.

Beyond the graveyard initiative, the governor also introduced a series of welfare measures designed to empower traditional and religious leaders.

He revealed that a new law passed by the State Assembly now guarantees District Heads’ salaries equivalent to at least Grade Level 16.

The welfare package also includes:

Monthly allowances for 6,652 Ward Heads across the state.

Stipends for over 3,000 Imams and their deputies serving in Friday mosques.

Monthly support for mosque sweepers in Izala and Darika congregations across all LGAs.

Reiterating his administration’s focus on security, Governor Radda disclosed that over 1,500 youths have been trained, equipped, and deployed to support community security efforts. They received uniforms, life jackets, and other operational kits.

“Security remains our top priority,” the governor said, urging community and religious leaders to promote vigilance and civic responsibility. “Government support works best when citizens themselves are actively engaged. Security is a shared responsibility.”

On behalf of the Emir of Daura, Umar Faruq-Umar, the District Head of Baure, Daha Umar-Farouq, reaffirmed the Emirate’s support for the governor, particularly after his recent car accident in Daura.

Similarly, the Wazirin Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida, representing the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, commended the reforms, noting that they had restored dignity to traditional institutions and strengthened their role in governance and community development.

He pledged the Emirate Council’s continued support through prayers, cooperation, and commitment to peace and prosperity.
