Kano to Sponsor 1,010 Indigenes to Study Abroad

Kano State Government has concluded plans to commence sponsorship of 1,010 tertiary students both at home and abroad in the first phase of its scholarship.

The State Commissioner for Higher Education Dr. Yusif Ibrahim Kofar Mata stated this at the press conference held at the office of the Commissioner of Information.

Addressing the newsmen, the Commissioner stated that the screening Committee for restoration of policy on sponsorship of best graduates of Kano indigene to pursue higher degrees at local and overseas Universities was established and inaugurated at the office of Secretary to the State Government.

He added that the Committee which received over 1200 applications, has screened over 800 applicants and is still inviting and screening applicants and the details of the recommendation will be issued very soon.

“It is very important to notify the people of Kano of the fact that, the restoration of this policy by the administration of Abba Kabir Yusif is not only targeting the Kano citizenry to get postgraduate certificates, but to expose youthful exuberance of our teeming youth internationally to get more opportunities and acquire different skills that may likely be supportive in changing the status of our dear state”.

“The benefit and the impact of the program spread widely, particularly in the education, health, Information Technology, and entrepreneurship among other sectors with key references to the several beneficiaries whose are now supporting social, health, political and economic,” the Commissioner stated.

The Commissioner who doubles as the Secretary of the Kano Committee for restoration of the policy on scholarship explained that the restoration of the policy on the scholarship of Kano State indigenes to pursue higher degrees within and outside the country is targeted at developing the Kano human capital to compete with all its counterpart across the globe.

The press conference took place in the presence of the Kano State Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye.
