Isiyaku Ahmed

The Kano state Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Muhammad Ibrahim Diggol, has announced a new transport policy initiative that will enhance accessibility to essential services and boost economic growth and transport infrastructure.

He made the disclosure on Wednesday in a press conference at the Nigerian Union of Journalists Kano Council Secretariat.

According to the commissioner, Kano’s growing population and commercial activities calls for an efficient and modern transportation system.

He added that the government is set to develop a comprehensive State Transport Policy to serve as a framework for both current and future transportation decisions.

He said a two-day stakeholder consultative forum has already been designed to review and enrich the draft transport policy.

“The policy, among other things, will serve as a working framework for overall transportation development and create an enabling environment for private sector participation in the state’s transportation economy.

“The transport policy will usher in a new dawn and renewed government efforts in the actualization of the vision and mission of transportation development.

“The vision and mission for the development of transportation in the Kano State Development Master Plan is to provide good accessibility to socio-economic activities for all residents of Kano State.

“This is within acceptable environmental standard that supports a modern multimodal transport system that satisfies the needs of the people of the state and also meets the standard of a world-class city.”
