Authorities of the Kano State Board of Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) have sealed the business premises of nine firms over alleged failure to remit their taxes.
During the sealing exercise carried out by the KIRS team, schools and other business premises were sealed.
According to the team lead of the enforcement team, Abbas Sa’idu, the action of the service became necessary as affected firms have failed to respond to several correspondence sent to them by the service, notifying them on the need for to settle the outstanding tax liabilities.
He added that the KIRS had obtained a court order to seal business premises of these firms as part of the measure to ensuring enforcement and compliance as stipulated in the service’s mandate.
According to the director, the service under the current Kano State Government will continue to work in ensuring that all revenue leakages are blocked for an enhanced revenue generation drive in the state.
“The service will not leave any stone unturned when it comes to revenue issues,” he added.
