Kano State Police Command has announced sweeping measures in Sheka Division as investigations continue into allegations of corruption involving a police officer, a Special Constabulary personnel, and a vigilante operative.
In a statement on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command confirmed that the probe followed allegations of extortion and misconduct.
According to the statement, investigators have so far been unable to substantiate either the claims made by the complainant or counter-allegations of drug dealing raised by the accused.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said discreet investigations have established that one of the accused is a serving Special Constabulary officer, while the other belongs to a vigilante group assisting the Division.
“To ensure impartiality and prevent interference with evidence, CP Bakori has ordered the transfer of the implicated officer and 22 others from Sheka Division to different formations, suspended the Special Constabulary operative, and disengaged the vigilante member pending the outcome of the probe.
“The ongoing investigation will be conducted thoroughly and impartially, and anyone found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary actions in line with the law,” CP Bakori assured.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism and accountability, urging members of the public to remain patient and provide credible information that could aid the investigation.
For emergencies or to report suspicious activities, residents are advised to contact the Command on 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.
