Kano: Police Arrests Mobile Phone Snatching/Robbery Syndicates

Based on reports from residents of Sharada, Sauna and Sabon Gari Quarters of Kano Metropolis that Mobile Phone Snatching/Robbery Syndicate relocated to these areas, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Habu A. Sani, psc, raised and instructed a Team of Operation Puff Adder, led by SP Bashir Musa Gwadabe, to arrest the perpetrators; the team immediately swung into action and arrested 12 young men.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, Monday, all the suspects confessed being part of Robbery and Phone Snatching Syndicates, adding that all of them were arrested in possession of dangerous weapons.

The arrested persons are; Nura Muhd, male, 18 years, Yusuf Dayyabu, 20 years, Nura Danladi, 20 years, Abdulkarim Abubakar, 18years, Imrana Salisu, 19 years, and Friday Andrew, 20 years.

Others are Mustapha Dahiru, 18years, Ibrahim Salisu, ‘m,’ 22years, Najib Ibrahim, 28years, Dahiru Abdullahi, 20 years, Ya’u Abdullahi, 20 years and Yusuf Sadiq, 18years.

The PPRO said all the suspects also confessed being addicts of intoxicating drugs. This led to the arrest of four drug dealers; Umar Sharif, 25 years old, with 137 wraps of Dried Leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp. Gambo Idris, 40 years, with 97 wraps of Dried Leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp.

Others are Ghali Alhassan, 25, with 11 Bags of Exol Tablets and 7 Sachets of Diazepam and Barau Umar, ‘m,’ 20, with 6 Satchets of Diazepam.

The suspects also confessed they sell Intoxicants to thugs (‘Yan Daba).

He said all the suspects will be charged to court after investigation is completed.

Similarly, in the same statement, the PPRO said some suspected fraudsters who specialise in cyber crimes were arrested, 23 November, 2020, following joint reports from one Auwalu Usman Abdulmalik and one Buhari Yusuf all of Bachirawa Quarters, Kano, that on 14 October, 2020, one Umar Isah 19 years of Kankia LGA, Katsina State, chatted with them through WhatsApp, impersonated their business partner and collected the sum of Three Hundred and Thirty-Three Thousand Naira (N333,000.00) through their bank accounts.

He said the suspect equally threatened to kidnap the daughters of the complainants, should they refuse to send more money to him.

The Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Habu A. Sani, psc, immediately detailed a team of detectives led by DSP Shehu Dahiru to arrest the culprit. The team swung into action, trailing the culprit in Kano, Abuja, Lagos and later arrested the suspect at Kankia LGA of Katsina State, on the 31 December, 2020, 78 days after the incident.

The suspect freely confessed committing the crime. Investigation is ongoing, the PPRO said.
