The Kano State New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Gubernatorial Transition Committee (GTC) has accused the outgoing Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration of undermining the transition process of the incoming administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano state governor-elect.
Chairman of the GTC, Professor Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, said that the Ganduje administration has refused to cooperate with the formation of the NNPP transition committee inaugurated by the Kano Governor-elect.
Bichi stated that “On the 3rd of April, we wrote a letter to the Chairman of the government committee who is also the Secretary to the State Government, formally notifying them of the formation of the GTC and asking them for a joint meeting.
“Rather than relying on our letter and honoring our request for a joint meeting, we were surprised to receive a letter on the 4th of April from the government asking us to provide the names of three persons to join the government committee.”
He added that “we were made to understand that the thinking of the outgoing government is that there should be a joint transition committee in which the outgoing government should have 80% of the membership while the incoming government should have 20%.
“Perhaps that is why they are proposing a committee in which they have 82% of the members (14 members) and asking us to nominate only 18% (three members).
Bichi accused Governor Ganduje of transferring all permanent state secretaries as part of his effort to undermine the transition process in Kano.
The NNPP Transition Committee called on all democratic institutions to challenge Governor Ganduje in order to cooperate with the transition committee and respect the choice of the people of Kano State.
However, the NNPP transition committee is set to hold joint meetings with all permanent secretaries, heads of agencies and parastatals, and directors of personal management of all 44 local governments starting from Tuesday, May 2, in order to ensure a smooth transition
