Kano Mourns Death of CAJA Director, Barrister Maryam Abubakar

Kano State Government has received with shock the passing of Barrister Maryam Abubakar, Director of Program, Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA).

The Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, in a statement on Monday, described her death as a great loss not only to her family but also to the legal profession and the entire civil society community.

According to him, the late Barrister Maryam was a committed legal practitioner and a passionate advocate of justice, accountability, and women’s rights.

“Her dedication to the promotion of the rule of law, social justice, and good governance distinguished her as a woman of integrity and service, whose contributions will be greatly missed.

“On behalf of the State Government, under the able leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the State wishes to extend a heartfelt condolences to the management and staff of the Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA), the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), the Nigeria Bar Association, Kano and Ungogo Branch, the entire family of the civil society community in Kano, and the family of the deceased.”

“This is indeed a painful loss that has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.

“We pray that May Almighty Allah grant the departed soul eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus and give her family, colleagues, and associates, the strength to bear this irreparable
loss.”
