The Kano state government has supplied drugs and consumables to Yadakunya Leprosy Hospital to be distributed free to the hospitalized patients therein.

This was contained in a statement on Saturday by the Information Officer of the state’s Ministry of Health, Ibrahim Abdullahi

According to the statement, the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf while delivering the consignment on Friday said it was to fulfill the pledge made by His Excellency Engr, Abba Kabir Yusuf when he visited the facility.

The Commissioner stated that this is the first consignment of drugs and consumables to fulfill the vow of the health amiable Governor of giving free drugs to the hospitalized patients he gets in the hospital, stressing that the drugs will continue to be supplied on a monthly basis up to the duration directed by His Excellency.

Dr. Labaran said in his compassion to ease difficulties of accessing drugs being faced by the patients, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf has, during the visit, instructed for the provision of free drugs to the hospitalized patients most of whom are less privileged till they are discharged.

He said the commodities, amounting to more than N833,000, are for this month and are free courtesy of the people’s Governor, charging the Hospitals Management Board and the facility to ensure judicious distribution to the intended beneficiaries.

Dr. Labaran then called on the people of the state to continue rallying round the present administration in its determination to turn around the healthcare system of the state to attain universal health coverage.

“There is a need for people to be safeguarding the hospitals and where we have renovated. The hospitals don’t belong to His Excellency, they rather belong to the people. When the Governor completes his tenure and goes, the hospitals remain in the public domain. Whoever destroys the hospital doesn’t mean well to the people and is cheating the community”, said the Commissioner.

He advised people to form a committee of hospital friends in a facility that doesn’t have them, pointing out that the committees play significant roles in complementing government efforts in putting watchful eyes into the affairs of the hospitals so as to function desirously.

Dr. Labaran asserted: “I would like to use this medium to warn health workers that they should abstain from abusing the patients. Patients need sympathy from us at all times. Our government will not tolerate such an unbecoming attitude from any health personnel.

“I wish to gladly inform you that His Excellency has approved the renovation of this facility. You should expect contractors any moment from now.”

Receiving the consignment, the Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his sympathetic attitude towards his people and his commitment to cushion the difficulties patients are experiencing in getting the drugs, especially in this critical situation of the country.

Dr. Nagoda charged the management of the hospital to ensure the commodities are judiciously distributed to the target beneficiaries, stressing that the Board will do all it takes to see that this gesture of His Excellency reaches where it is meant for.

He directed the management of the hospital to open a register for documenting names, and card numbers of the beneficiaries and the quantity of the drugs he or she is given in order to avoid diversion of the commodities, thanking Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting the healthcare system of the state.

The Director General Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) Pharm. Ghali Sule also witnessed the occasion.
