The Kano State House of Assembly was thrown into mourning on Wednesday following the deaths of two serving lawmakers, Hon. Aminu Sa’ad of Ungogo Constituency and Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji of Kano Municipal Constituency, who passed away within an hour of each other.
The death of Sa’ad was first reported, and barely an hour later, Daneji’s demise was also confirmed, deepening the shock within the Assembly and the state at large.
Confirming the development via his verified Facebook page, the spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sanusi Bature, disclosed that Daneji died shortly after his colleague.
“From Allah we come, and to Him we shall return,” Bature wrote. “Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, member representing Kano Municipal at the Kano State House of Assembly, died today, an hour after the death of his counterpart.”
As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two lawmakers remained unclear.
