Kano Approves N8.53bn for Key Development Projects

The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total sum of N8.53 billion for the execution of key projects and programs aimed at improving the welfare of residents and accelerating socio-economic development across the state.

Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, in a statement said the approvals were granted at the 37th Executive Council meeting held on Thursday, at the Malam Aminu Kano House, Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, where the council deliberated extensively on critical issues of governance affecting various sectors.

According to the statement, in the area of land administration, the council approved N251.9 million for compensation to property owners affected by the construction of a five-kilometre dualised road project in Bagwai Local Government Area.

The Ministry of Works received several approvals for infrastructure development.

These include N148.8 million for the construction of an orphanage hostel at Nassarawa Children’s Home; N147.2 million for clearance and an access road at Farin Ruwa–Yan Kwadi Village in Shanono Local Government Area; and N660.3 million for the construction of reinforced concrete drainage and interlocking tiles at Ayagi-Aisami, Bakin Ruwa Ward in Dala Local Government Area.

The council also approved N1.71 billion for the construction of a two-coat surface dressed road from Chiromawa to Garun Babba in Garun Malam Local Government Area.

In the health sector, N187.8 million was approved for the construction of an additional office complex and extension of the perimeter fence at the Primary Healthcare Board to improve staff welfare and security.

The council also approved N677.6 million for the first phase of reconstruction, rehabilitation and renovation of Rogo General Hospital, which was recently damaged by a fire outbreak.

Additionally, N520.1 million was approved for the procurement of a brand-new CT Scan machine for Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.

The Ministry of Education received approval of N113.8 million for the general renovation of Government Junior Secondary School, Tatsawarki, in Kumbotso Local Government Area.

In agriculture, the council approved N830.2 million as compensation for farmlands affected by the construction of five small earth dams across five selected local government areas.

As part of efforts to enhance urban aesthetics, the Ministry of Environment was granted N176.2 million for the construction of the Arewa Knot and a multi-tiered fountain at Alfurqan and Baban Gwari roundabouts.
The Ministry of Water Resources received one of the largest allocations, with N3.11 billion approved for the supply of non-ferrous aluminium sulphate (alum) for water treatment over a six-month period in 2026.

On policy matters, the council expressed deep dismay over the death of a female patient at Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, where a pair of scissors was reportedly left in her abdomen during surgery.

The council condemned the incident as a grave act of negligence, assured the public that investigations would be pursued to their logical conclusion, and pledged that appropriate sanctions would be applied in line with the law.

The government also extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and welfare.

The council further acknowledged the importance of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project and approved the phased implementation of the AKK Industrial Layout, Tamburawa, with Phase I focusing on basic infrastructure and perimeter fencing.

Additionally, the council noted persistent structural challenges at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Karaye and approved a comprehensive upgrade of the facility to safeguard the welfare, security and wellbeing of corps members serving in the state.
