Jigawa state Government has warned against rejecting old Naira notes by individuals and organizations as it vows to enforce a supreme court order on using them as legal tender.

This was contained in a press release issued and signed by the state commissioner of information youth sports and culture Hon Bala Ibrahim

The statement explained that the Jigawa state government is concerned about the difficulties people are passing through in the state as a result of rejecting ₦1,000, ₦500, and ₦200 notes by some individuals and organizations despite the Supreme Court order.

” Some state governments including Jigawa state have filed suit against Federal Government and Central Bank on deadline for using old Notes, the court has given injection restraining the dependents from implementing the deadline policy “pending the court determination on the subject matter”

“In according to Section 287  (1) of the constitution as amended, no one has the right or reason to reject the old notes after the court order, therefore Jigawa State Government will not be hesitant to enforce the supreme court order accordingly

The statement called on the general public to continue accepting the old notes as legal tender until the supreme court’s determination, and also to report any ones rejected the notes to the nearest authority for appropriate action.

The Jigawa state Government has made this announcement to counter the speech delivered by President Muhammadu Buhari in which he reiterated the federal government and CBN stand on ₦1,000 and ₦500 notes deadline but extended the ₦200 notes.
