Jigawa To Impose Standard For Packaging Agricultural Products

Jigawa state Government has vowed to impose standards in packaging local agricultural products to enhance the value chain and market guarantee for dealers, consumers, and exporters.

The state Governor, Malam Umar Namadi stated this while speaking at the official commissioning ceremony of Habiscus Cleaning and Fumigation Company COMTTRA – Jigawa established by a private investor in collaboration with the Jigawa state government at Maigatari local government.

He said Jigawa is a leading state in producing Hibiscus, Sesame, Rice, and other crops, therefore, the government is determined to partner with other private companies to promote value chains and standards in production, processing, and packaging for competing at local and international markets.

Governor Namadi added that the Jigawa state Government has taken all necessary steps to transform the state agricultural sector with modern farm inputs, improved seed training, and other needed facilities for the farmers at a subsidized price.

“Today we are proud to say our efforts yield fruitful results, and we will continue to invest heavily in the sector for jobs creation, food security, growth, and development.”

He, however, assured the Hibiscus farmers that, his government would go around the world and source machines that would improve the Hibiscus production harvesting and processing by reducing the hard labor to enhance its production at a competitive and profitable price.

In his remarks at the occasion, the Chief Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promoting Council  who was represented  by Mr. Amby Dauda Ambiktum Director of the Export Development and Incentive Department said in 2023 Habiscus worth over $142 million was exported by 130 companies to 32 countries across the world,

The CEO then promised to continue collaborating with Jigawa state in promoting Hibiscus export being the major producer of the crop in Nigeria.

In his speech, the Chief Executive Officer COMATRA Alhaji Umar Faruk Lawan  Batagarawa thanked the Jigawa state Government for creating an enabling environment for investment which attracted his company y to invest in the state.

“Jigawa state is an investor-friendly state, we promised to continue to collaborate with the government and farmers for the development of Hibiscus production, processing, and marketing in the state for Job creation growth and development,” the CEO declared.

In his speech, the state commissioner for Commerce and Industri Hon Inu Ahmad Kanta Sa’id,  COMMATRA -Jigawa Company was established at Maigatar Free Export Processing Zone under the Jigawa state Government Public-Private partnership to support Hibiscus production and processing. , Also to provide farmers with modern technology of farming as well as market guarantee
