Jigawa to Immunize 1.7 Million Children Against Polio Virus

After spending almost one year on break, Jigawa state is set to resume polio immunization campaign to strength the immunity of over 1.7 million targeted children against any possible outbreak of the virus in the state.

The State Director, Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Sambo Shehu revealed this while briefing newsmen on their preparations to resume house to house polio immunization campaign.  

He said, the state will launch the campaign between 28 June to 1st July during which teams of vaccinator will go round all the communities for immunizing the children between age of 5 to below.

Dr Sambo revealed that a total of over 12,000 personnel including adhoc staff mobilized for conducting the exercise.

“We have over two million doses of the vaccine which is more than enough for the exercise, we also have more than 300 Solar drive refrigerator with at least one in each of the 287 political wards in the state for ensuring effective cold-chain storage of the vaccine.”

The Director how ever revealed that, Jigawa reported last case of polio in 2011, however they will not be relentless in strengthen the unity of children to ensure the virus did not resurface in the state.

He than called on parents to bring out their children for the Immunization to ensure no single child missed out in the exercise.
