Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended three local government council chairmen for allegedly traveling outside the country without seeking permission from the state executive or legislative.

The suspended Chairmen are Mubarak Ahmed of Birniwa Local Government, Rufai Sunusi of Gumel Local Government, and Umar Baffa of Yankwashi Local Government who was said to have traveled to Rwanda.

The House took the decision after the  Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Hon. Aminu Zakari Tsubut forwarded a motion for their suspension.

He narrated that, prior to their traveling, the house had given an order for the local government council chairmen in the state to not travel anywhere due to the preparation of the 2024 state appropriation bill and its presentation to the State Assembly by Governor Malam Umar Namadi.

Hon. Tsubut described the action of the chairmen as insubordination, a nonchalant attitude to the primary responsibility which ought to be investigated and punished according to the law.

The members representing Malam Madori constituency,  Hon. Usman Abdullahi Tura, and the Member representing Guri,  Hamza Guri seconded the motion moved by Hon Tsubut

The House then unanimously approved for the suspension and directed their vice to take over.

However, the House constituted a committee under the Chairmanship of the Majority Leader, Hon. Lawan Muhammad Dansure to investigate the matter and report back to the House within 4 weeks for further action.
