The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Jigawa State Chapter, has called for legal reform to provide more protection, rights, and opportunities for women against existing cultural oppression and persecution.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Jigawa state NAWOJ chairperson Mrs. Hauwa Ibrahim Ladan and made available to newsmen.
“On this auspicious occasion of International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the protection of women’s rights. Every woman deserves to live free from violence, discrimination, and oppression.
“As advocates and champions of women’s rights, we will continue to raise our voices against gender-based violence, advocate for legal reforms, and support survivors in their journey towards healing and justice.”
The Association also called for genuine women’s inclusion in the business of governance and access to opportunities for women in all sectors of society. By implementing affirmative action policies and providing targeted support to women entrepreneurs, artisans, and small business owners, we can create a more inclusive and just society where every woman has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.
“Moreover, we remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing Girl Child Education as a fundamental human right and a powerful tool for social and economic development, access to qualifying healthcare services for women and children, and capacity-building initiatives”.
“Together, we can create a world where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive, flourish, and contribute to the progress and prosperity of our society” the statement declared
