Jigawa Correspondent Chapel Commends NITDA for Training Journalists on Digital Facts Checking

Jigawa state Correspondent Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has commended National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for training its members on digital Journalism and Digital Facts Checking.

The Chairman of the Chapel Comrade Muh’d Zangina Kura made the commendations while speaking shortly after closing the two-day training session on Thursday at the Manpower Development Institute, Dutse.

He said the training will enhance the professional skill of the practicing journalists in the state to meet up with the contemporary challenges posed by digital technology

According to him, journalists are confronted with dimensional challenges from social media which serves as vehicles for the spread of fake news in society.

“Such training will certainly enhance the capacity of our members to counter the menace of fake news in the society by authenticating the source of any information for proper public enlightenment”

“Today everyone has access to social media and can bombard public with all sort of fake and distorted news which only trained and a professional person can understand it is a false information,” the Chairman said.

Comrades Zangina then charged the participants journalist to use the new ideas and skills they got from the training to enriched their editorial contents with correct information to counter the spread of fake news which potents great danger to global peace and stability.

In her opening remark, the NITDA Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations, Hadiza Umar said the training was aimed at enhancing the capacity of practicing journalists on modern journalism and how to take the advantage of digital technology to strengthen the public confidence in their editorial contents.
