The International Peace and Secure Society (IPSS) has extended warm commendations to the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his bold and visionary leadership in steering agricultural development and youth employment in the state.

This praise follows the Governor’s recent presentation of employment letters to 1,038 newly recruited agricultural extension workers, a significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to revitalizing agriculture and improving livelihoods across Kano.

Representing IPSS at the event were its Director General, Comrade Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf, and the National Treasurer and Kano State Coordinator, Comrade Muhammad Tukur Garba, a retired Nigerian Air Force officer.

They were joined by Retired Colonel Dr. Usman Abubakar Garun Malam, a senior figure in both the Kano State Government and IPSS, who currently serves as the Special Adviser on Disaster Management to the Governor.

Governor Yusuf: Renewing Hope through Agriculture

Addressing the recruits at the ceremony, Governor Yusuf described Monday as of renewed opportunity, where promises made have translated into meaningful action.

“These jobs will not only support food security but also provide income for thousands of Kano families,” he affirmed.

He emphasized that despite Kano already leading the nation in the number of agricultural extension agents, the growing demands of modern agriculture require further investment in trained personnel.

“We need more trained extension workers who will serve their communities, support our farmers, and help transform our agricultural sector,” the Governor stated.

He called on the recruits to uphold values of integrity and service.

“This is not just a job, it’s a call to serve. You must rise above temptations and avoid any misuse of public trust,” he cautioned.

A Commitment to Stability and Growth

Governor Yusuf expressed satisfaction that Kano, unlike many other states affected by insecurity, remains largely stable, allowing farmers to thrive.

He announced new agricultural investments, including the construction of a two-kilometre earth dam.

This project is set to support an additional 2,800 hectares of irrigation land and contribute to the cultivation of up to three million hectares, with 500,000 hectares dedicated to irrigation.

“This dam project is part of our broader vision to expand farmlands and empower our agricultural workforce,” he explained.

A Legacy of Opportunity and Growth

Governor Yusuf reminded the new extension workers of past success stories, noting that many senior public servants, including permanent secretaries, began their careers through similar initiatives.

He cited the example of scholarship beneficiaries under the mentorship of Engr. Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, many of whom now serve in top government positions.

“You too can rise to such heights if you remain disciplined and dedicated,” he encouraged.

He also addressed previous employment challenges, revealing that the current administration has absorbed 4,500 BESDA teachers into the state workforce and cleared their outstanding entitlements, an act that underscores the government’s people-first approach.

Labour-Friendly Leadership Recognized

In their remarks, the IPSS leadership praised Governor Yusuf’s commitment to creating jobs at a time when many states are struggling to meet salary obligations.

“While some governors are avoiding the burden of employment, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is boldly investing in people,” said Comrade Yusuf.

He also declared Governor Yusuf the “Most Labour-Friendly Governor of the Year 2025,” as recognized by the Nigeria Labour Congress.

Beyond agriculture, the Governor disclosed upcoming mass recruitment plans, including 5,000 youths, 3,900 teachers, and 1,500 lecturers for tertiary institutions.

These efforts complement the administration’s broader investment in human capital, including the award of 600 foreign scholarships to Kano indigenes earlier this year.

Alignment with IPSS and Safe Nigeria Initiative

IPSS noted that the Governor’s actions strongly align with its flagship Safe Nigeria Initiative (SNI), a comprehensive strategy promoting peace, resilience, and development.

Launched in Kano and tested in Kaduna, the SNI is set for a national rollout, with Kano proudly leading as the pilot state.

In recognition of his alignment with these goals and his unwavering commitment to people-centred governance, the IPSS has resolved to bestow an international honour on Governor Yusuf.

This decision was made in consultation with the Chairman of the IPSS Board of Trustees, Engr. Dr. Suleiman Sani, a seasoned development expert and the current Special Adviser to the Governor on Irrigation and Dams Development.

A Call to Serve with Honour

As Kano State embarks on this new chapter of agricultural and socio-economic transformation, the IPSS calls on the newly appointed extension workers to embrace their roles with dedication, integrity, and a sense of purpose.

“This is more than just employment; it is a platform to shape the future of agriculture, peace, and progress in Kano State and beyond,” said Comrade Dr. Yusuf.

The International Peace and Secure Society reaffirmed its commitment to working hand-in-hand with leaders, communities, and institutions to foster peace, prosperity, and sustainable development throughout Nigeria.
