The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in collaboration with the federal government is designing a new project called Value Chain North (VCN) to boost productivity of farmers in the north.
Experts during the technical workshop on Value Chain North (VCN) Project Design finalisation said the new project will not only boost value chain productivity of farmers in the region, but will enhance the economy of many communities in the region.
Earlier in the week, the Associate Vice President of IFAD, Rome, Dr Donal Brown, during a press conference to mark the end of his official visit to Nigeria, said the new project will help a lot of farmers in the north to see further opportunities in the sector.
“We are designing with the government, a new project to support production value chains in northern Nigeria and climate adaptation,” he said.
The IFAD Associate Vice President described as “very successful” the ongoing organisation’s projects in the country, the VCDP Additional Financing (AF) and Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprise – Niger Delta (LIFE-ND), adding that the new project will make positive impact in the successes of other projects.
Since 1978, IFAD has spent about $1.5 billion in Nigeria with a current portfolio valued at a.bout $400 million.
