‘I Will Ensure LG Financial Independence’ – Aliyu

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has pledged to make local government councils in the state financially independent to impact the people’s lives.

He also commended the peaceful conduct of the local government council election in the state after casting his vote at the Magajin Rafi model primarily school polling unit in Sokoto North local government area on Saturday.

“I am glad and satisfied with the conduct of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) processes that ensure a smoothed election process.”

Governor Aliyu urged candidates of different political parties to accept the outcome of the election results in good faith and assured readiness to work with all the candidates that emerged in the election to make the people’s lives better.

Speaking shortly after casting his vote at the Gidan Kara polling unit in Wamakko local government area, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC Sokoto), said the high turnout of electorates at the election indicated that people have accepted the All Progressive Congress (APC) administration in the state.

He appealed to candidates who would emerge winners to consider the victory as a call to serve and ensure transparency in their dealings.

The State APC Chairman, Isah Achida, said the transparent arrangement and participation of political parties in the LG election had demonstrated increased people’s awareness of participating in governance.

He however commended law enforcement agencies that ensure the smooth conduct of elections and expressed optimism APC would win all elections in the 23 local government areas.

Speaking to Journalists, the SOSIEC Executive Chairman, Alhaji Suleiman Aliyu, said he went round to different places to ensure that activities were moving hitch-free as arranged.

Aliyu noted that the commission received complaints and was addressed immediately to hasten the process adding that the BIVAS machine was not used in the election because of the abnormalities recorded during the last general elections.

Our Correspondent on election monitoring observed that the election recorded increased turnout, especially for women, however, election materials were distributed late and elections started mostly after 9 a.m.

 It was also discovered that some business outlets and traders in neighbourhoods markets in Sokoto metropolis and its environs went about their usual business activities.
