The Managing Director of the Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yalewa has said that the Commission expended over N1b will be expanded on the rehabilitation of the Yauri water treatment plant in Kebbi state.

Yalwa stated this on Wednesday in Yauri while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the stakeholders meeting on the water project, and inspection of the completed projects carried out across the state by HYPPADEC.

He said further that, Yauri town has been facing perennial water shortage for the past twenty years which makes it difficult for the people to have access to portable water supply.

“You see the commission will provide additional overhead tanks of one million liters each in addition to the existing ones and make to have access to the portable drinking water” he added.

He, therefore, said that very soon a bid tender would be available to invite any firms that are interested and qualified of carrying out the projects to be executed.

“The project would include not only rehabilitation of the treatment plant but also expansion and maintenance,” he said.

The Managing Director, however, solicited support from the communities for safeguarding and maintaining the project while on completion.

On the issue of the completed projects inspected by the commission in Kebbi state, Yelwa expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done by the contractors and also commended the benefitting communities for expressing their appreciation for the intervention.

The projects inspected include health, power and street lights, schools as well as roads network.
