‘Hijab Protects Womanhood’ – Zainab Nasare

Wife of Kebbi State Governor, Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, says wearing of hijab protects womanhood and is an effective antidote to curtailing the prevalence of rape against women and girls in the society.

She made the declaration at the official students’ hijab flag-off and renaming of Government Day Secondary and Primary School, Eastern Bye Pass, Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

She expressed concern about the increase in rape cases of all ages.

The wife of the governor explained that the significance of the hijab was solely to protect the sanctity of womanhood and discourage indecent exposure of bodily features of women and girls to shield them from harm.

She solicited the cooperation of Local Government Chairmen, traditional rulers, community leaders, principals and teachers of schools as well as parents and guardians to support the awareness campaign to widen the scope of hijab-wearing among girls in schools and women in general.

The Governor’s wife was emphatic that the incumbent administration of her husband would enforce the law on rape which specified 18 years imprisonment for convicted rapists.

She urged wealthy individuals throughout the state to graciously donate pieces of hijab to girls’ schools to attain the desired objective.

She acknowledged that the religion of Islam has accorded dignity to women and raised their status to an enviable height which must be maintained.

Quoting from the sayings (Hadith) of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which reveals that educating a woman is tantamount to educating the entire society, Zainab Nasare affirmed the commitment of the present government to place a premium on girl child education as well as the education of others.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande in her remarks cautioned teachers to uphold their obligation of imparting quality knowledge to pupils and students while the Principal of the school, Nana Aisha Muhammad commended Dr. Nasir Idris led administration for giving priority to education sector.

She requested the provision of an ICT laboratory equipped with computers and the construction of additional classrooms in the school.

The school has been officially renamed, “Hajiya Zainab Nasir NUT Government Day Secondary School while the primary section is renamed Hajiya Zainab Nasir NUT Model Primary School, Eastern Byepass, Birnin Kebbi.
