Erling Haaland scored twice against Sparta Prague, surpassing Neymar and tying Didier Drogba in the Champions League goalscoring standings.
On Wednesday night, City crushed Sparta Prague 5-0 in the Champions League thanks to two goals from Haaland. One of the goals startled the crowd with an absurd back-heel volley. This indicates that he has scored 44 Champions League goals at the age of 24, which is equal to Didier Drogba’s total and more than players like Neymar and Alessandro Del Piero.
Haaland still has a ways to go before he can match Cristiano Ronaldo, the greatest scorer in Champions League history. Lionel Messi, who scored 129 goals, is the only other player to reach 100 goals in the championship, while the Al-Nassr hero scored 141 goals. Currently, Robert Lewandowski has 97 goals after scoring for Barcelona in their 4-1 thumping of Bayern Munich.
In just 42 appearances, Haaland has scored 44 goals in the Champions League. He has previously won the competition, of course, and was instrumental in City’s historic 2022–2023 treble.
This weekend, City will play Southampton before playing Tottenham in the Carabao Cup. On November 5, they play Sporting CP in their next European match.
