Gumel pays tribute to presidents, delegates, retired Sec-Gen for sterling contributions to Nigeria’s Olympic Movement

The just re-elected President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Gumel has paid glowing tribute to all presidents and delegates for their wonderful support in are-electing him.

“You were all wonderful in your resolve to offer me another opportunity at the leadership of our Olympic Movement.

“Your profound support will propel me to ensure that every single fellow is carried along. I will only ask you to help in every little way by contributing your quota to the growth and development of our NOC,” he said.

”That the Congress turned out peaceful is due to your support. for which I thank you all immensely,”

“The elections are over. We need together from now on to lift our Movement. Let us close ranks as one indivisible Olympic Family, ” Gumel said.

Meanwhile, he praised the retiring Secretary General of the NOC, Mr. Olabanji Oladapo, describing him as a “Worthy Nigerian Ambassador’’, to the Olympic Movement in Nigeria.

 ‘’We are already missing your indelible footprints in your work,’’ noted Gumel in a statement released by the newly elected Public Relations officer of the Movement, Mr . Tony Nezianya.

The statement quotes Gumel as saying that Oladapo was a loyal officer who knew how to navigate through the many challenging situations with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“Oladapo deserves to share in the glory for sterling contributions he brought in through athletics via top athletes at the World Championships—the likes of Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume, etc.

“He wrote and followed up on the requests for the scholarships through the Olympic solidarity and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) in the eventual release of the crucial funding that he; helped to set them in the mood for the attainment of their dreams.
